Political organization, Bayelsa West Unity Forum, has appealed to former Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Seriake Dickson, to abort his plans to contest for a second term in office for the sake of peace and unity between the people of Ekeremor and Sagbama Local Government Areas.

Speaking during a press conference in Sagbama Town, the Chairman of the Bayelsa West Unity Forum, Romeo Richman, said that based on the zoning arrangement that has unified the people of the area for over two decades, the Senatorial seat is zoned to Ekeremor while the House of Representatives seat is zoned to Sagbama.

He explained that from the inception of the current democratic dispensation in 1999, the two seats in the upper and lower chamber have been zoned between the two LGAs for two terms of eight year each.

He further said “from available record, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri from Ekeremor LGA did eight years from 2007 to 2015. When he attempted to come for a third term, he was forced to abort that ambition. From 2015, Senator Foster Ogola from Sagbama did four years and stepped aside in 2019. From that point Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo took over and did two years before handing over to Dickson that is completing the turn of Sagbama in 2023.

“I would also want to draw the attention of the Amiable miracle Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Douye Diri, to the fact that there are certain characters in the government who are flaunting the governor’s order on Politicking and are also using his name to cause disunity and havoc in sagbama Ekeremor axis which is something that would dent the name of this government.

“For this reason we planned a MEGA RALLY, that was slated to hold on the 22nd day of January 2022, to sensitize and enlighten our people in the region, but the forces that be who are only interested in clinging on to the highest office in the senatorial district fought by all means to ensure we don’t hold the rally, knowing fully well that if it goes on, the people would be enlightened and as peace loving IZON people they would opt to do the right thing.

“After we followed all due processes, it happened that there was a ban on political rallies and public gatherings which has led to the indefinite suspension of the rally. Moving on, I’m sure everyone is conversant with the purpose and mission of the Bayelsa West Unity Forum, I want to use little time to also explain to us all that we are a forum aimed at unifying the people of Bayelsa West and also maintaining a smooth rendition in political offices in the senatorial region.

“I would love to commend the current Commissioner of Police of Bayelsa State for been an unbiased person who stayed true to the tenets of been a public servant.

Even amidst calls and allegations to detain me, he rather made proper investigations and left me off with advice and warnings on the right ways allowed by the law to let our voices be heard, truly he is a good man.

“To our teeming members and supporters all over Bayelsa West, be steadfast, yes they are coming with offers to shake us but we have taken a stand and that stand is to make sure the people of Bayelsa West are treated fairly at all levels of the polity, we won’t be moved or cajoled into going quiet!”
