Members of the Bayelsa West APC Elders Forum have condemned, without any form of equivocation, the decision of the state governor to overtly support the Senatorial ambition of H.E. Seriake Dickson, stating that the governor has deliberately rurbished the good intentions of the elders who pioneered and championed the practice of zoning in the Senatorial District.

The forum noted that the practice of zoning was initiated by elders of the district to promote peaceful coexistence among the people through a process of rotational representation that encourages equity, fairness and good conscience

The Forum, therefore, cautions that the Governor should stay clear from the issue since he is not an infigene of the said district, adding that his involvement has exacerbated the already existing tension. The members of the group wondered why a prime beneficiary of the practice of zoning would want to deliberately subvert the general will of the people.

The group further expresses high level of shock and disillusionment over the irony of the governor’s actions, as it clearly violates section 14 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which unambiguously defines the primary role of the state to ensure the security and welfare of its citizens, noting that the decision of the governor Will certainly culminate in the outburst of grave adverse consequences.
“This is predicted on the premise that Dickson’s emergence as Senator will be a recipe for deep seated frustration and attendant response by the people of Ekeremor LGA”.

To recall the sequence of events in order to keep the governor abreast with some political antecedents, the APC Elders Forum stated that several agreements and communiques had been agreed upon and issued respectively in the past, which had always formed the fulcrum of the principle of rotational representation, notable among them is the 2015 agreement, which scuttled and marred the third term ambition of the then Senator, Heineken Lokpobiri – a process that was midwifed by Governor Seriake Dickson; and the 2019 communique purportedly issued by an amalgam of all the political parties that formed the pivot of the campaign by PDP, with a promise to complete the remaining two years of Senator Lawrence’s four year tenure.

The elders stated that the action of the Governor is nothing short of a deliberate and a well orchestrated attempt to relegate the people of Ekeremor LGA to the background as he cannot feign ignorance of the fact that Sagbama LGA had occupied the seat of the Senate for sixteen years with five Senators, namely, Senators Emmanuel Diffa, J.K. Brambaifa, Foster Ogula, Lawrence and Dickson in a respective order, while Ekeremor LGA had occupied the seat for eight years with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri representing us. The group members expressed their ardent conviction that the Governor is not unaware of these verifiable facts in a way making mockery organic magnanimity of the past, in addition to all other juicy offices meant for the district held by the people of Sagbama LGA .

According to the elders, the governor’s support for Dickson’s second term ambition is a show impunity and the use of state power to coarse the wish of the people . However, the APC Elders Forum avers that the contradictions quality representation and performance find expression in the use of faulty and biased stating it that its purely for selfish and the mere promotion of their oligarchy tendencies , as we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that there are plethora of sound minds in Ekeremor LGA who will do far better if given the opportunity. The APC chieftains reminded the Governor that there are immeasurable number of very competent from Ekeremor LGA who can feel in the gap

The Forum sees Dickson’s return to the Senate as a political voyage and personal aggrandisement at the detriment of purposeful representation for service delivery .

By and large, the APC elders call on the Governor of the state to rescind his decision in order not to exacerbate the already excruciating pains inflicted on the people of Ekeremor LGA, as it will always elicit undesirable responses, occasioned by the level of injustice, deprivation and deep sense of neglect.

The APC elders who signed the statement includes;
