The Chairman of Brass Local Government Council Hon. Bello Bina, has warned that any civil servant with more than one appointment in the Local Government would be dismissed from service.

Hon. Bello Bina who gave the warning while addressing teaching and non-teaching staff of public primary schools at Akassa, venue of the staff verification exercise for schools in Brass Constituency 3, said government would not allow anybody who was a teacher to also benefit as a staff of the Council or the RDA as any person caught would be handed over to the security agencies for prosecution.

While expressing appreciation to the teachers for doing a good job in the LGA, the Chairman urged them to remain dedicated to their calling, even as he empathized with them for the delay in payment of their salaries, which he attributed to the ghost-worker syndrome and the financial crisis the country was facing at present, and promised that the teachers would be paid before the end of the week.

Describing the teachers as very important people in society, Hon. Bina Bello said by taking care of primary education, government was invariably taking care of the children and securing the future of the Local Government, state and nation.

Responding on behalf of the teachers, the Head Teacher of State School 1 Akassa Chief Stephen Jeremiah poured encomiums on the Chairman for personally moving from community to community to oversee the staff verification exercise, rather than inviting them to the local government headquarters at Twon-Brass for same.

Chief Stephen Jeremiah who pointed out that inviting the teachers over to Twon-Brass for the exercise would have cost them a lot financially, said the teachers were impressed with the friendly disposition of the Chairman in the conduct of the exercise and expressed the hope that the Chairman would fulfill his promise to commence salary payment during the week.

In a related development, the Chairman of Brass LGA, Hon. Bello Bina, has lamented the huge wage bill of over N100 million to service the salaries of Primary School Teachers in the Local Government, describing it as unsustainable in the light of the present economic crisis in the country.

Meanwhile, the primary school staff verification committee has discovered that some Schools in the area have only two staff; while some has only four, six or seven staff, respectively.

The committee also discovered that State School, FANTUA belonging to Nembe LGA was drawing salaries from Brass Local Government Education Authority. Consequently, Hon. Bello Bina has directed that all staff of State School, FANTUA, should with immediate effect draw their Salaries from Nembe Local Government Council, clarifying that the Brass Local Government Council is not a Charity Organization.

A total of 25 public primary schools were verified with less that 100 real teachers; while a total of 125 Staff in the Brass Local Government Universal Basic Education Authority and 40 staff of the District supervisory unit (DSU) were verified with those above 60yrs of age recommended for retirement and those who did not show up for the exercise were categorized as ghost workers.
