His words: “I feel your pains for the overdue salaries; I can feel your pains. But in the other way round, we are trying to solidify this system. You are all human beings, you all deserve the best. As we are dealing with you the hardworking workers, we are as well dealing with some ghost workers because a lot of abnormalities are going on in all the local governments in Bayelsa State.

Hon. Bello Bina who pointed out that the Council could no longer bear the economic burden created by the ghost workers syndrome, however, expressed the determination of the Caretaker Committee of Brass Local Government to sanitize the system. The Chairman pleaded with the staff to bear with government in its ongoing efforts to reposition the Council, promising that the normal salary payment procedure would be maintained in subsequent payments.

“Believe me, we have all the workers at heart and we want to do the best so that at our next payment, we will not gather this crowd again, but you will be getting your alerts from your banks as usual. We are not paying this salary to say after this one month salary, that you are going to get another one or two three months salary again. No. We have come to pay salaries upon salaries upon, and salaries upon salaries! That is how we will be paying from today”, the Chairman assured.

Describing Governor Seriake Dickson as a leader that has the people of Bayelsa State at heart, Hon. Bello Bina pointed out that it was for that reason the workers voted for the PDP “Talk Na Do Governor”. The Governor, according Hon. Bello, could not leave the workers in hunger, hence the conduct of the verification exercise to sanitize the system to wipeout the ghost workers in the system.

The Chairman further assured the workers that the story of non-payment of salaries in Brass Local Government Council would now be a thing of the past, promising that as soon as the supervised payment was completed, the Council would commence work for the next month salary which would be paid into the various individual staff accounts.

Some staff of Brass Local Government could not hold back their joy over the current Management’s resolve to put smiles on their faces by commencing payment of salaries, even as they called on the Management to expedite action on the immediate payment of the backlog of salaries. One of such is Mama Lucy Ibarafa, who openly expressed joy at the development.

The payment of the local government staff is expected to be closely followed by that of teachers and headmasters in Brass LGA.
