Umbrella body of Ijaw Youths, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) has commended the decision by the Federal Government to revive the $22 billion Brass Liquefied Natural Gas(BLNG) project, describing the decision will expand the economic frontiers of the Niger Delta region.
IYC also expressed confidence in the ability of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva to ensure that the Final Investment Decision(FID) on the project is secured as soon as possible.
The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) through its spokesperson, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, in a statement reacting to the interest from a prospective investor, Greenville LNG, expressed hope in the reactivation of interest in the Brass LNG, describing it has a necessary venture that will reactivate the economy and the economic activities of the region.
Ekerefe also called on the Federal Goverment to ensure that the project is actualise unlike other projects meant for the region that is yet to be attended to.
He noted that previous studies have shown that the Brass LNG project will absorb over 20,000 direct jobs and opportunities beyond measure, “we want to call on all stakeholders and youths of the region to continue to sustain the peace and assist in the actualisation of this project.”
He also commended the State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri for his vision and foresight at commencing the construction of the Nembe-Brass road project and the announcement of the revival of the Brass LNG project by the federal government through the Minister of State, Petroleum as heartwarming.
He said “the Ijaw Youths are elated to here the announcement made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources on the Brass LNG and we also commend the miracle moves by Sen. Douye Diri to kickstart the Nembe-Brass road. Sen. Diri’s decision is serving as a catalyst to the Federal Government’s move in the region and must be commended.”
Comr. Ekerefe said that as youth leaders from the region, they will continue work with relevant security agencies and stakeholders to consolidate the existing peace provided by Sen. Douye Diri.
