Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has called on corporate organisations to support the promotion and preservation of the state’s cultural heritage through the sponsorship of cultural festivals as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The Governor made the call at the opening ceremony of the 69th Odi Ogori Ba Uge International Festival in Odi, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
He said festivals such as the Odi Ogori Ba Uge Festival are deeply rooted in the history and economic survival of the people, describing them as symbols of unity, resilience and freedom that deserve sustainable public-private partnerships.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Prof. Ebikisei Udisi, said the festival commemorates the historic victory of the Odi people over the dreaded Ogori (buffalo), which once disrupted the community’s social and economic life for several years.
The event attracted government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and other dignitaries from within and outside Bayelsa State.
