The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, (Rt) Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, has faulted the suspension declaration by the Presidency on the RUGA settlement policy, call for complete abolishment.

Isenah, said with the suspension of the project by President Muhammadu Buhari, it shows there is every tendency to bring the policy through the back door, noting that the right thing to do is a total abolishment following the public outcry and outright rejection.

The speaker made his position known while briefing newsmen on Thursday, after a book launch, at the  Earnest Sei-sei Ikoli, Press center, Yenagoa.

“When something is suspended, there is every tendency to bring it back, and the right thing would have been complete abolishing, complete rejection”

The suspension could be temporary and i don’t want to think its permanent, we don’t want it suspended and smuggled back from the back door, so if they know its bad then it should be completely abolish.

Earlier, the Chairman House Committee on Information and Orientation, Hon. Bernard Kenibai, said the RUGA settlement policy has no place in the state.

He further added that the RUGA is one thing Bayelsans feel is consistent with the way the Federal government has handled affairs, adding that the FG has a penchant for steering the honey nest in the midst of calm.

His words”When the issue of cattle colony came up it was alright rejected across the country, and because of the opposition it went into the coolers, and from no where they came up with RUGA”

RUGA, is an advancement of the cattle colony concept and for Bayelsa there’s no argument about it, because we wont condone that in any form. The best suggestions made towards ranching are things that should be implemented for the benefit of the relationship between the farmers and herders
