Member Representing Bayelsa West at the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Hon. Ouseibai, Seperegha Godsgift M. on Wednesday 20th January 2021 gathered youths of his district to a town hall meeting at Sagbama Town, Sagbama local government area to discuss various challenges facing youths in the district and the state.

The well attended meeting had interactive sessions, paper presentations, Goodwill messages and brainstorm session on key sectors of the society ranging from Education, Health, Security and Unemployment.

In his remark, The Honourable Member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi who was ably represented by his Legislative Aide, Comrade Kevin Tawari while conveying the Goodwill message of Hon. Agbedi, commended the convener of the gathering for the thoughtfulness displayed,charged youths of the district to always reach out to him through his constituency offices which are always opened to them to bring meaningful contributions that will foster development. Hon. Agbedi further thanked the Governor of the State Senator Douye Diri for running a youth friendly administration obviously shown with the appointments given to youths in the prosperity administration.

Also speaking in a separate remark, the Director General, Centre for Youth Development, Bayelsa State, Chief Hon. Ombu Okubokakpo represented by Hon. Kemenanaibi Ogba who took out time to intimate the youths of the Prosperity government’s plans for young people which include employment generation, agriculture and also restructuring the existing Bayelsa Volunteers and Vigilantee group so as to engage more youths to help fight insecurity.
Also he mentioned that for the first time since inception of the centre it now has constituency Directors who are equivalent to SSA’s on Youth to the Governor which is aimed at bringing government closer to the youths.

One of the participants, Comrade Kings Tamarapreye charged the government to ensure youths of Etegwe community are engaged in curbing the incessant crimes recorded in the popular Tombia Roundabout area in Yenagoa, especially now that the state owned Niger Delta University is back in session.

Other speakers during the brainstorming session suggested regular engagements of youths with relevant skills to curb unemployment, also the rate of multiple taxation by various groups should be checked so as not to discourage young people going into SME’s. They also called on drug regulatory bodies to check the high rate of drug abuse in the state which is also part of what has led to high rate of crime in the state while appealing to parents and guardians to bring up their children in the fear of the Lord. A communiqué was then written, it was read and a motion was moved and seconded for its adoption.

In his closing remark, Hon. Ouseibai thanked all the participants, charging them to continue to choose dialogue in pressing home their demands and also the government to give youths their price of place in the society by involving them in the decision making process especially in issues affecting them. He thanked Hon Fred Agbedi, Hon Emmanuel Okosikeme; Vice Chairman, Sagbama LGA, Hon. Bello E. O. Bina (JP), the IPMAN Chairman/Coordinator, Bayelsa State, Comr. Henry Yekwe for their support and then the members of Team Bayelsa West Youth Town Hall Meeting for the organization.

The Meeting also had in attendance Rt. Hon. Mubarak Mijinyawa, the Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament who was ably represented by Hon. Kelvin Ighosotu, Hon. Mary M. Torunana, Member representing Bayelsa Central at the Nigeria Youth Parliament, Hon. Atti J. Moses, SA to the Governor on Student Affairs, Hon. Wisdom Kieriebo, former Majority Leader of the Parliament.

Also Hon. Kelvin Ighosotu and Hon. Maureen Baridoma Yobo, members representing Delta Central and Rivers South-East respectively of the Nigerian Youth Parliament who were the Guest Speakers among other well meaning youths of the district in particular and the state at large.
