The Chairman of Niger Delta Self Determination Movement (NDSDM) Bayelsa State chapter, Comr. Oki Tony has express dissatisfaction over the rule played by Bayelsa state Government official during the just concluded Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) central zone election in Yenagoa.

Comr. Oki Tony in a statement sent to NAIJA LIVE TV said, What played out in the just concluded IYC Central Zone election was a shameful one. He said Gov. Douye Diri who publicly said he has no interest in who becomes IYC Zonal Chairman, clearly mobilised his appointees and top political office holders and the State treasury to deliver his own boy who has never participated in IYC activities before. Noted that such act is quite pathetic and must be discouraged.

In his word;

“Honestly I pitied some of our political leaders who inspite of the political position they have attained in life, still reduce themselves to come and show their political talent in IYC and community youths election”

“How can two former Commissioners in the former administration, Commissioner for Education and that of Ijaw Affairs respectively, two serving Assembly Members except Comr. Tare Pori who a is former zonal Chairman, a former SA Domestic, former Special Advisers, Board Chairman and other government officials be mobilised with State resources to the venue of a mere IYC Zonal Election, just to fight against one aspirant and deliver the Governor’s boy? And they are proudly sitted on the front row of the election hall. My prayer is that, since they are more interested in youth politics, God should use the youths to replace them”

“While other political leaders are going national, our Bayelsan political leaders are going back to youth and students politics, and that’s why you will see a former Commissioner fighting hard to be reappointed as Commissioner again, so rather than going forward they are politically stagnated. This is why Ijaw politicians don’t have national players, but local players whose interests are to install one community youth president or IYC Chairman”

“The real problem of Ijaw Nation is not our oppressors but our petty IYC Elders and Stakeholders who have sold our struggle for 30 pieces of silver to the Bayelsa State Government House”

“What played out in the just concluded IYC Central Zone election where thesame Governor who publicly said he has no interest in who becomes IYC Zonal Chairman, clearly mobilised his appointees and top political office holders and the State treasury to a mere IYC election just to deliver the his own boy who has never participated in IYC activities before is quite pathetic and must be discouraged”

“I don’t see a viable and active IYC in the hands of this new leadership, but an IYC that will lock up itself in the Government House, i pray that should not happen anyway”

“Today some of our Elders no longer think with their brain but their stomach, and that is why the Ijaw leaders are finding it difficult to compete with their counterparts in other ethnic nationalities. Thesame elders who resolved in their meeting at Erepa Road that they will not accept a non participating members of IYC are thesame ones running around the non participating candidate because of crumbs that will fall out in the process”

“Fellow Ijaws, the truth is that, until we realise we can survive without the Govt House, IYC will not longer be formidable. Let’s watch out”

“I can not end this piece without acknowledging my dogged friend, Deacon Tari Agai, who put up a fight against the entire Government House and its candidate, that’s how Ijaw youths who have the mind of liberating Ijaw Nation should be”
