The prosperity government of Sen. Douye Diri, of Bayelsa state, has bowed to pressures and refunded the deducted amounts of civil servants salaries to workers in the state civil service.

NAIJA LIVE TV earlier reported that the PDP government in the State deducted salaries of geologists in the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

The said deductions have been refunded to the civil servants in the above Ministries on Tuesday after NAIJA LIVE TV’s report about the issue went viral.

Sources who confirmed the refund of the deductions said the affected workers in the said Ministries have received alert of their remaining money.

It was however gathered from reliable sources that the refunding of the money to the civil servants was because of the governoship election which is drawing closer, that there are perfected plans to rededuct salaries of civil servants in the above Ministries and beyond if the governor is re-elected.

Recall our earlier report that Bayelsa civil servants cry out as Gov. Diri deducts N90,000, N150,000 and above from September salaries of Civil Servants.

NAIJA LIVE TV gathered that the deduction mostly affected Geologists in the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Mineral Resources.

A reliable source who spoke on the ground of anonymity said the salaries of staff of the said Ministries were deducted by the government of Bayelsa state, revealing that some workers where even more affected as the higher their level, the higher the deductions witnessed.

According to the source, it was former governor, H.E Chief Timipre Sylva, during his tenure, that increased their salaries as hazard allowances due to the nature of their work.

The source said “Gov Diri has reduced Geologist salaries in the state. It was former governor, H.E Timipre Sylva, that added the salary for us when he was the Governor, but now, Governor Diri has removed half of our salary in this month. We are in pains.”

It was further revealed that the government removed some chemical engineers from those Ministries totally and some senior colleagues witnessed as much as N150,000 to N180,000 deductions in their salaries, adding that a whooping sum of N90,000 was deducted from level 13 workers and was paid N110,000 instead of N200,000 earned as monthly salary.

The source further revealed that the government had earlier stopped other allowances before this new development purported to be directed by the Deputy Governor.
