The Bayelsa state House of Assembly has on Tuesday, approved the request of Governor Douye Diri to appoint 24 new Special Advisers (S.As). This is following a letter from the Governor who requested to appoint the new aides into his second term cabinet.

The letter, titled ‘Request for Approval for the Appointment of Special Advisers,’ was read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Adogu Kent.

Governor Diri, in the letter, said “I write to seek the approval of the House of Assembly for the appointment of 24 Special Advisers to the Governor.

“The purpose of the appointment is for effective governance and fulfilment of the vision of the prosperity of the state. It is in accordance with the provision of Section 196 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.”

Member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2, Edwin Obolo Bubou, moved the motion for the assembly’s approval of the governor’s request and was seconded by his Southern Ijaw Constituency 3 counterpart, Hon Moses Marlon.

They emphasized the necessity of the approval to provide legislative support to the government. Speaker of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham lngobere, presided over the plenary.
