Alhaji Tanko Yakasai said he discussed supporting APC national leader, Bola Tinubu for his 2023 presidential ambition Tinubu had held a meeting with the founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum at the latter’s residence in Abuja There have been posters advertising the rumoured presidential bid of the former governor who is believed to be eyeing the presidency in 2023.
One of the major critics of President Buhari’s government, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has opened up what he discussed with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in his Abuja residence.
Tinubu who is strongly believed to be nursing a presidential ambition in 2023 had on Wednesday, November 24, visited the elder statesman.
The 96-year-old speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, November 26, stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader was at his home to solicit support for his presidential ambition in 2023.
Yakasai, a founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum revealed that he would support the former Lagos state governor’s presidential bid in the next general election.
The elder statesman said:
“He (Tinubu) just came to visit me but actually I have two of them (presidential aspirants) that I have earmarked right from the beginning and I made a vow that any one of them who came to ask for my support first is the person I would support. Tinubu is the first person.”
Though Tinubu is yet to officially declare his intention to contest any office posters and billboards advertising the rumoured presidential bid have been spotted in major cities in Nigeria. Yakasai also confirmed that the APC national leader told him he would be contesting for president and asked for his support.
previously reported that a pro-Tinubu group, Youths Earnestly Ask for Tinubu (YEAT), threw its weight behind the APC leader as a potential candidate for president in 2023.
It was reported that YEAT national president, Nimjul Nansak Pennap, who spoke to reporters in Jos, the Plateau state capital on Thursday, November 18, said that the group will campaign across Nigeria to drum support for Tinubu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. He said that Tinubu has what it takes to sustain the strides of President Buhari in tackling insecurity, corruption and making life better for the average Nigerian.
In a related development, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a former media aide to Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, says the potential presidential candidate of the APC is in the southwest geopolitical zone, not in the southeast.
The former media aide claimed the southeast zone does not have the political number and candidate with national appeal and weight to pull votes across the country in the forthcoming elections. Yakasai stated this on Friday, September 24, when he appeared as a guest on Arise TV. He was sacked earlier in 2021 for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising security threats in the country.
