The Federal Government has urged stakeholders in Nigeria’s extractive sector to use the 2026 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, EITI, Validation Exercise to strengthen transparency, accountability and good governance.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the National Stakeholders’ Working Group, Senator George Akume, made the call while declaring open a three-day Joint Strategic Retreat in Abuja.
The retreat, themed “Strengthening EITI Implementation from Extractive Sector Reporting to Impact,” is aimed at advancing transparency and improving governance in Nigeria’s extractive industry.
According to a statement by the Head of the Information and Public Relations Department, Chris Ugwuegbulam, Akume said the validation exercise provides an opportunity to deepen reforms and promote sustainable national development.
