There is rising tension in Ikebiri 1 community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council Area of Bayelsa State following alleged armed soldiers invasion and forceful installation of the Chairman of the Community Development Community (CDC) , Comrade Abiola Ayakoroama.

The Ikebiri community, which is rich in Oil and gas, is alleged to be heading for bloody confrontation between the faction led by a former Militant, Stephen Ebisinte Livinus and the other seven aspirants ‎forcefully excluded by the armed soldiers.

Leadership gathered yesterday that the soldiers, who were accused to have been hired by the ex-militants, were attached to the ‎Agip Oil pipeline in Azuzuama community, had invaded the venue of a family meeting being held to nominate a candidate for the chairmanship of the CDC and at gun point ordered that the known choice was the Present Youth President of the Community.

While some members of the community reportedly loyal to the installed Abiola Ayakoroama praised the moves by the military to avoid bloodshed, supporters of the Seven aspirants for the position argued that the action of the Military is a violation of the existing democratic processes that had led to the peaceful election of CDC Chairmen and a threat to oil exploration activities in the area.
