“Oil Spillage: “We May Sue You For Life-Threatening Damages” Ikebiri Development Foundation Warns Nigerian Agip Oil Company

The people and indigenous settlers of the Ikebiri Kingdom of Bayelsa state have come out to openly condemned the actions and inaction of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company for the unceasing oils spillage occurring in their settlement.

The members of the Ikebiri Development Foundation, while speaking on behalf of the people of Ikebiri Kingdom berated

The statement goes thus:

“On behalf of the Ikebiri kingdom, we the Ikebiri Development Foundation (IDF) outrightly condemn the slow and inhuman manner in which Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) responds to issues that treathren the Ikebiri kingdom’s existence.

On this note, we vow to pursue and challenge these ill treatments, meted out to our people justly. NAOC is clearly being dubious in their dealing with our people whom they have always considered as illiterates.

We can boldly say that NAOC is using the Divide and Rule as a strategy in our communities, so that the people do not have what they truly deserve. They empower a few to the disadvantage of the others. NAOC is never proactive in responding to the cry of our kingdom which alone has eight oil wells.

We want to assure the general public that we will not hesitate to resume our legal tussles. To avoid this, below are our demands:

1. That NAOC immediately sends sufficient relief materials of food and drugs along with medical team to help the affected communities.

2. Carry out an enlightenment campaign in the affected communities on how the people should live within this period to avoid contracting more diseases.

3. Provide good drinking water because for now, non and the people are able to drink from the affected river.

4. Work out an adequate compensation plan on a round table involving government agents and kingdom stakeholders.

5. Support the people in their agricultural endeavors through the Green River project which the community has never benefited from since its inception.

Finally, we promise to relentlessly pursue this just course of ensuring that we don’t continue to loose not just our farm lands and ecosystem but we shall eagerly ensure that our people lives are never cut short untimely.
