Governor of Bayelsa state, Senator Douye Diri, has instructed the Commissioner of Police, CP, Benjamin Okolo, and other security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those allegedly involved in the Nembe Bassambiri killing in Nembe Local Government Area.

The governor who gave the order on Monday, at the 22nd State Security Council meeting held in Government House, Yenagoa, condemned the killing of four persons in Nembe, saying his administration will not condone with any form of lawlessness.

While assuring the people of Nembe Bassambiri and Ogbolomabiri his administration’s willingness to restore peace in the twin communities, Gov. Diri said he as directed security agencies to remain in Nembe to ensure normalcy before, during and after the elections, saying, if the situation further escalates, the government will impose curfew.

“Our state has been a safe and secured one, and I would like you to continue to keep our state safe, and all of us from Bayelsa should join the security agencies, giving information where necessary to ensure that our state remains safe.
Let me again commend our service commanders, and people of our state for keeping our state safe and peaceful.

“Again, building up to the elections, we have seen killings in Nembe-Bassambiri for no just cause, so I have directed the security agencies to take over Bassambiri and Ogbolomabiri, and they will remain there until after the elections and until peace is restored to that part of the state.

“I also directed the arrest of those who are culpable in those killings. It is sad that in every election Nembe has become a flash point and that must stop. Let us all conduct ourselves in a civil way as civilians.
We are still studying the situation in Nembe, should there be any escalation of the situation there, I will not hesitate to impose a curfew there.”

The Bayelsa helmsman also commended Bayelsans for maintaining peaceful disposition in the state, even with the difficulties experienced due to the financial policy by the federal government, which he said will have a great benefits to all Nigerian as it will change the financial system of the country.

“We are all undergoing certain difficulties, difficulties I believe that are time-bound, and I would like to appreciate the people of Bayelsa State, that even though they are experiencing the pain, yet taking things easy, and have never resorted to illegitimate and illegal means of addressing their pains.

“This is another phase in our lives, and this too shall come to pass, and since this policy is in the exclusive list of the Federal Government, we can only ask the Federal Government to reduce the impact on us as a people,” he said.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the Security Council Meeting, the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Benjamin Okolo, said security agencies are investigating the issues that led to the killings, while assuring the people of their safety by security agencies, he noted that normalcy has restored to Nembe Bassambiri, but revealed that some arrest has also been made.

The police Commissioner also stated that the various security agencies are prepared for the general election, adding that security agencies have reviewed the security situation in the state and the command has resolved to provide sufficient security before, during and after the elections in the state.

In a bid to have a lasting solution to the Nrmbe crisis, Governor Diri, through the Chairman of the state Traditional Rulers Council, King Bubaraye Dakola, Agada the 4th, Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, invite His Eminence, King Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, Mingi the 12th Amayananbo of Nembe Kingdom and King Biobelemoye Josiah Ogbodo the 8th of Nembe Bassambiri to a meeting with the state deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ehurujakpo.
