Coalition of Niger Delta Groups Backs Dickson and Kemela for Bayelsa Senatorial By-election

A coalition of Niger Delta groups in partnership with major stakeholders within the PDP and some other leading parties have called on members and leaders of the PDP in Bayelsa to allow the immediate past Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson and the immediate past secretary to the state government of Bayelsa State, Barr Kemela Okara to fill in the positions of Senators representing Bayelsa West and Central respectively.

Pureh Kalango, the National coordinator of Person Not Party told newsmen in Yenagoa on Tuesday that the choice of Dickson and Kemela is borne out the desire to ensure only quality leaders with the requisite experience are sent to the Senate considering the avalanche of experience, brains and pedigree that defines the present Senate.

Collins Odondiri speaking on behalf of PANDLEAF Bayelsa State chapter reiterated the obvious that Bayelsa central which comprises Yenagoa, Kolokuma Opokuma and Southern Ijaw has three things that stands out for Barr Kemela Okara
1) His antecedent and impressive performance in all appointments that he held and also playing a major role as the engine room of the past administration
2) He comes from the LGA with the highest number of eligible voters
3) On the political front, the PDP has given out two key positions to Kolokuma Opokuma (Governor) and Konbowei Benson (Secretary to State Government). It’s our believe that justice will be done to the people of Yenagoa LGA.

On the issue of Bayelsa West, we believe former Governor Dickson stands out without competition. We know his contacts, wisdom, experience and influence will bring the needed development via proper legislation.

Finally Mr Pureh Kalango (National coordinator) and Timipere Jackson Bidei (Southern Ijaw Coordinator) in a joint statement said the duo has not declared to contest for the vacant positions in the Senate but we are determined to exert the necessary pressure which includes organizing a 10 thousand man march to convince these leaders to accept this clarion call and salvage Bayelsa in our bid to actualize the dream of our founding fathers.
