YENAGOA – A political support group, the APC Integrity Group, has alleged that the sum of N30b was allocated to Bayelsa State from the federation account for September 2022.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Fred Ayabowei, on Tuesday, the group asserted that the state’s allocation has been on a steady increase for the past ten months, arguing that Governor Douye Diri has been unable to use the funds to develop the state.

The group averred that the increase in allocation was meant to bring rapid infrastructural and human capital development in the state, but a cabal calling the shots in Creek Haven is making it impossible.

The statement accused Diri of deceiving Bayelsans with the gospel of unity with nothing meaningful to offer the populace.

“Bayelsa State has produced governors in the past before. None of his predecessors was lucky enough to have such an inflow of funds as what we are getting today.

“Is the governor servicing high-profile political elites? Or is it a lack of political will to develop the state?

“Why the delay in the senatorial roads, Isaac Boro way and the rest roads? Why has he not done anything on the Tower of Shame?

“From all indices, the governor is doing little to save enough for his re-election which we see as a pipe dream. It’s the only excuse for the snail speed development evident in Yenagoa and across the state.

“Diri should learn from other governors who are doing so much with little allocations.

“He should borrow a leaf from Chief Timipre Sylva who despite the endless discrimination of the central government at the time transformed Bayelsa and made the local economy thrive,” the statement reads in part.

While accusing Diri of not doing enough to improve the economy of the state, the APC group also called on him to resign “since he can’t develop Bayelsa rapidly with the huge allocations.”

Calls and messages sent to the Commissioner of Finance, Maxwell Ebibai and the Technical Adviser to the Bayelsa State Governor on Treasury Matters, Timipre Seipulo by our reporter were not answered or replied to as of the time of filing this report.

It was gathered that a total of N673.1b was shared between the three tiers of government for September 2022.

The federal government got N259.641b, the states received N222.949b, while the local government councils got N164.247b.
