There is rising suspense in the polity of Bayelsa state following an open plot by the immediate past governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson to stop the second term bid of the incumbent, Senator Douye Diri over unexplained charges despite repeated denials.
The plot against Gov. Diri, which is being waved aside by the prosperity camp as evil imagination of some few politicians, has reportedly been kick started with plot to de-market the present administration in the media and label him a betrayal.
It was gathered that former Governor Dickson, who is the Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial district, has started holding secret meetings with loyalists and plotting to launch another online news platform to be allegedly coordinated by the former General Manager of the State Broadcasting Corporation, Dr. John Idumange.
While reports have it that the online news medium, which is expected to be launched soon in Port Harcourt, Rivers state will be coordinated to launch a series of media attack on the Gov. Diri administration, recruitment are reportedly ongoing through personal phone calls to media practitioners in the state to support the planned campaign of calumny against the present administration in the state.
Already, a substantial sum has allegedly been handed out to Dr. Idumange to launch the online news platform out of the proposed sum of N10million.”
“The plot is to stop Gov. Diri. They will mobilise serial media attacks on him and that Idumange, has been engaged to lead the media team.”
“Idumange, is about to launch an Online News Platform, to which some funds have been released to him. The media agenda is very clear and that is to promote falsehood against the Governor. Idumange is seen as the best hand for them having fallen out of favour with Diri. Don’t be surprised when the so called Online New Medium begins to spew out lies. That is the assignment before Idumange and his team”, the source alleges.
A senior PDP officials told newsmen that the plot against Diri started following the outcome of the PDP primaries in the State despite efforts by the Peace and Reconciliation committee headed by Sen. Inatimi Spiff, ”the plot against Gov. Diri has made the choice of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) a launching pad for political confrontation.
Dickson’s loyalists have secured 24 State Assembly tickets, and tickets for the National Assembly seats in the 2023 elections.
Though, this act could be likened to anti-party, Gov. Diri remained resolute that Dickson is his leader.
It is also gathered that the former Governor is now in the habit of calling different Yenagoa-based journalists to interrogate them on the performance of incumbent Governor Diri in the allege bid to recruit them towards the campaign against Gov. Diri second term.
One of such journalists reportedly told his colleagues recently that, “Imagine that Dickson, called me a few days ago and wanted to know my assessment of the Prosperity Government. The former Governor did not sound excited at my response when I told him that the governor is doing very well and that the people of Bayelsa love him.”
The journalist continued, “ I really do not know why Dickson is fighting Diri. The Prosperity Government is dominated by Dickson’s men. Look at the list of the Commissioners and many appointees. This is a government that is completing projects abandoned by Dickson and Diri, in his good heart always acknowledge the work done by the former Governor. I think this is pure envy. Bayelsa people will re-elect Diri because the government is doing well by touching more lives. He is a popular governor today in the eight Local Government Areas. Diri will win squarely. Dickson should just support him.”
