The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan R. Obuebite has again assured Bayelsans that it would be impossible now for the Restoration Government to back down or slow down on the speed of revolution which it is running with in the education sector, saying that with the over 70 Billion Naira that has been invested in providing quality and world standard education, it is too late to let the whole effort go down the drain.

Addressing EXCO’s of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in Bayelsa State, the commissioner says that the introduction and establishment of the new school system by the government was a major breakthrough and with the right persons manning the schools, it would only get better. He went further to commend some Principals in State schools for their unflinching support and dedication in instilling the right values in their students and for also coaching them well enough to represent the State in different competitions within and outside the State, citing the most recent quiz and essay competition which had Master Stephen-Gow Agbaeriworio a student of the Ijaw National Academy emerge 4th position among the 36 States, and Miss Ayemieye Tamara-Ifie of Government Girls Secondary School, Kaiama who emerged 2nd in an essay competition.

“As a government, we are proud of what we have been able to achieve so far, but we are also aware that we still have a lot to do, and we would not fail to do all that we have promised to do, you know that it is not in the nature of the Governor to make a promise and not fulfill it. For you the Principals, I must say that you have been supportive and understanding and that we commend and will not take it for granted he said.

But I would like to use this medium to appeal to you the EXCO, to from time to time engage your members and ensure that they do the right thing and not ruin the hard work and investment so far put in the sector, with their “I don’t care” attitude to work and involvement in any act that is detrimental to the school and the State, saying that such ill act (s) would not be tolerated.

The commissioner used the opportunity to call on Head-teachers, Principals, and teachers in all State School, that anyone who is caught misusing or carting away with government properties or engaging in any crime or criminal related act especially within the school premises would be dismissed immediately and punished, saying that they are supposed to be role models to the student and show positive characters and not the opposite.

Responding, the President of the group, Mr. Abbey Ayebaemi River on behalf of ANCOPSS thanked the commissioner for yet another warm reception given to them, saying that he is indeed a father and a leader to emulate from and thanked the Governor for appointing him to oversee the education sector. He also assured the commissioner that the EXCO would implement all that he has pointed out and ensure that they would all work together for the good of all, adding that at the end they are the ones who will reap all that the Restoration Government is putting in place.
