A 16 years old student, Master Okworu Great Cyril of Bishop Dimieri Grammar School, Yenagoa emeged the winner of 2019 Essay Writing Competition and subsequently named a one day state Commissioner for Education.

The competition was part of activities to mark this year’s children day celebration organised by the state Ministry of Education.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Jonathan R Obuebite Ph.D while handing over office to the one day Commissioner for Education, Cyril said, the idea of organising the competition is borne out of desire to motivate and encourage the students.

His words, “we want them to understand act of governance and how daily activities of government are being carried out.

Also, it will afford the winner to know the procedures and how things are being done from the Commissioner’s end.

In his inaugural address, a one day commissioner, Master Okworu Great Cyril advised his fellow students and entire Bayelsa youths to eschew violence and say no to drug abuse.

He said there is no benefit in drug abuse, that rather, it leads to destruction and sometimes mental disorderliness.

Master Okworu also called on Bayelsa State not to relent on creating more awareness on the need to shun drug abuses in its entity.
