The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, PMF, says eight of its members were killed and four others wounded in joint Saudi-United States airstrikes on its headquarters across Iraq.
Saudi Arabia said the operation was carried out in coordination with the United States Central Command, CENTCOM, targeting Iran-backed armed groups operating in Iraq.
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Defense said the strikes were launched early on Wednesday in response to recent drone attacks.
The ministry said Saudi air defense intercepted and destroyed several drones allegedly launched from Iraqi territory by Iran-aligned armed groups targeting petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh regions.
