….Avoid Failures Of Past Managements, IYC Tells New Board

The leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has urged the newly inaugurated substantive board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to tackle the developmental challenges of the region without delay and partisanship.

The council made the call in a New Year message issued on Thursday by its National Spokesman, Ebilade Ekerefe while applauding President Muhammadu Buhari for the inauguration of the commission’s new board after seven years.

Ekerefe also congratulated the new Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, and other board members on their appointment and successful swearing-in.

He advised the new board to shun corrupt tendencies associated with previous leaderships of the board, including the alleged abuse and use of the commission’s funds to pay political godfathers and sponsor political parties, especially as the 2023 general election would be conducted in a few weeks.

According to him, the IYC will not hesitate to demand the removal or resignation of any board member who engages in abuse of office, to serve as a deterrent to others.

Ekerefe said, “While we congratulate Dr Samuel Ogbuku for his successful inauguration as the brand new MD of the NDDC, he should waste no time than to hit the ground running.

“In doing so, he should be rest assured of the Ijaw Youth Council’s commitment to ensuring that he succeeds, as a former leader of the IYC in the formative years, who is now on the saddle of regional development.

“The region is currently yearning for aggressive development, most especially, human capacity building programmes that will place priority on the youths of the region with a non-partisan posture.

“The new board should take note that the failures of past leaderships of the Commission, which led to the non-appointment of a substantive board for over seven years, was caused by the brazen corruption of successive administrations, the penchant to repay political god-fathers and misuse of the funds meant for regional development that will benefit all.

“The new board members under Dr. Samuel Ogbuku should learn from the past and resist the temptation of using the Commissions funds meant for regional development for sponsoring candidates of political parties to win elections in 2023 as this will not be tolerated.

“Any attempt or traceable evidence to show open partisanship that will derail the board from achieving its core mandate, the IYC will not hesitate to call such individuals out and call for their immediate sack to serve as a deterrent to others who may have such mindset.”
