Julius Osahon, the Bayelsa State Correspondent of the Guardian Newspaper, who was kidnapped recently but regained his freedom five days later, has narrated his harrowing experience in the camp of his abductors.

He spoke on the occasion of his Thanksgiving Service at His Elects Ministry Church situated at Evbotubu, a suburb of Benin City on Sunday morning.

The journalist said throughout his ordeal he believed so much that he would regain his freedom not minding that his abductors were at all times scaring him with threat that they will eliminate him if his ransome which they put at N50million was not forthcoming.

He asserted that throughout his ordeal he was blessed with supernatural favour as his abductors gave him a much different treatment in comparison to what his co-kidnapped victims were subjected to.

“As we were travelling between Bayelsa and Delta State in a commercial vehicle all of a sudden our vehicle was stopped by the kidnappers who shot at the driver as he wanted to outsmart them.

“We were all led through a bush path walking for hours as we were being relocated to different camps. I don’t pray for anybody to go through such a bad experience.”

Going further, Osahon disclosed that for days they were starved of food and water just as the kidnappers negotiated with their family members on how much they should pay as ransome.

“At a stage when the negotiation was not going in favour of the kidnappers they told my wife whom they were negotiating with that she should go and get a coffin for me as they intend to kill me if the negotiation stalls.

“However, God came to my rescue and I gained my freedom after paying over N1 million as ransome to my abductors.”

Osahon thanked the church members, family members, colleagues and people of goodwill for standing by him and his family throughout the ordeal.”
