The organised labour in Bayelsa State has called on the newly-inaugurated Governor of the state, Mr Douye Diri, to pay workers the outstanding January and February salaries.

In a statement in Yenagoa on Tuesday by the state Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, John Ndiomu and Laye Julius, respectively, the labour organisation said Diri should restore workers’ confidence by paying the salaries and pension.

Labour said, “We believe the payment of the January outstanding salaries and that of February will restore the confidence of workers in your administration.”

It listed its expectations to include regular payment of salaries, payment of gratuity to pensioners, payment of promotion/minimum wage arrears, training and retraining of workers and resolving “issues in the local government areas and higher institutions.”

The NLC and the TUC congratulated Diri and his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, on their “divine emergence” as governor and deputy governor of the state.
