The Rivers State Police Command says the wanted suspect in the killing of the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division, SP Bako Angbashim is dead after his camp was raided on Saturday.
Spokesperson of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement said operatives raided the camp of the wanted suspect, Gift Okpara, popularly known as 2baba and despite a fierce gun battle, 2baba and his gang escaped.
The statement however said intelligence confirmed 2baba’s death after he lost consciousness and resuscitation attempts failed. It said the raid came after 2baba and his gang attacked Okogbe Town and Odiokwu Community, destroying pipelines early on Saturday morning.
The statement also revealed that an aerial assault was conducted by the Airforce on February 10 on 2baba and his gang at their campsite which had a difficult terrain to discourage land-based attacks, necessitating the use of canoes to reach the location. The statement said efforts are on to retrieve the body of 2baba, while investigations into cult activities in the area continue.
