A political group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State known as the Integrity Group yesterday accused the State leadership of the Party led by the Chairman, Cleopas Moses of alleged cloning of delegates ahead of the September 2nd Governorship primaries of the Party.
According to the group, the State PDP leadership have commenced the process of manipulating the outcome of the Governorship primaries with an order issued to ward and local government statutory delegates to submit details of their voters’ identity card and PDP membership card numbers to the party.
The PDP Integrity group, in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Comrade Tony Nathan Ile, stated that more disturbing to concerned PDP members is the alleged use of thugs and taskforce to collect the items from the delegates without explanations,’ it is quiet unfortunate for anyone to indulge in such an inglorious act.’
‘The only plausible explanation for the funny act may be to clone the cards in order to exclude some delegate that do not support their preffered candidates. We do not believe that our party exco in this state,which is expected to show good conduct in the affairs as it relates to the conduct of the PDP gubernatorial primaries coming up soon will be involved in the nefarious act.’
‘ The issue of ordering ward and local government executive members of the party to submit their party identity cards and also voters card number is surely an attempt to discredit and undermine the good lofty intentions of the National Leadership of the party to conduct a free and credible primaries of the Party.’
The group however called on the national leadership of the party to quickly intervene and set up a committee to investigate the serious and grievous allegations,’ the illegal act would further polarise our party and make us vulnerable for defeat at the a November 16th poll . Aggrieve members will have no other options to seek refuge in other political platforms.’
The group also called on the State Governor,Hon. Seriake Dickson to call the State leadership to order,’ we are concerned that some over zealous persons in the party have the evil intent that are capable of showing such desperate move. we warn that if this act continues,either covertly or overtly, we will be left with one option to demonstrate to the National Executive to discipline implicated State Party officials’
Reacting to the allegation, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Barr. Osom Macbere denied knowledge of the alleged order to ward and local government statutory delegates,’ First,the PDP does not know the existence of such groups within the state PDP and such recognition given by the media ,made the groups have the enfontry to spread such fake claims and allegation.
‘ We are not aware of such allegations. But am happy that they have made it known that they have filed their complaint to the highest organ of the party to investigate and administer sanctions. For a fact, such things are not happening within our party.’
