OGBIA – Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leader, Great Joshua MacIver, has pledged ₦20 million towards the construction of a befitting palace for the Paramount Ruler of Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area.
MacIver made the pledge during a visit to the monarch alongside the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Hon. George Turnah, MON, and other party leaders.
Speaking at the palace, MacIver thanked the monarch for receiving the delegation and expressed disappointment that previous promises made to the community during election campaigns had not been fulfilled. He assured the king that the PDP would honour its commitment, stating that the party’s House of Assembly candidate for Ogbia Constituency III, Mrs. Freeman Egbim, had undertaken to build a new palace.
He said the project would commence immediately and pledged to provide ₦20 million before August 10, stressing that the project would begin ahead of the election. He also assured the monarch that any promise made by the party’s candidate would be fully backed by the party leadership.
Turnah, in his remarks, pledged a trailer load of cement to support the palace project, while MacIver maintained that the PDP had the capacity to deliver meaningful development to the constituency.
After the palace visit, the party leaders proceeded to the Elebele Town Hall, where they formally received Gabriel Claudius and his supporters into the PDP.
The reception, led by Turnah and MacIver, featured the presentation of a PDP membership card to Claudius, officially marking his return to the party.
Addressing the gathering, MacIver said the event was organised solely to welcome Claudius and other returning members and should not be mistaken for a campaign rally.
He congratulated Claudius on his return to the party, urged members to remain committed ahead of future campaigns, and commended Turnah for his leadership since the governor’s exit from the PDP.
In his acceptance speech, Claudius thanked the party leadership and supporters for the warm reception, describing himself as “a blessed child” and MacIver as a wise leader who had inspired hope among the people.
He expressed confidence that the PDP would regain its leading position in Bayelsa State and reaffirmed his commitment to the party.
