The protesters were arrested Friday, August 17 during a peaceful protest to demand a date for Biafra referendum, as well as the whereabouts of the IPOB leader, who disappeared since September 14, 2017 after raid of his Afaraukwu Umuahia country home by security operatives.

It was gathered that the judge in his verdict asked the police to release them unconditionally after the bail application filed by the lead counsel to the women, Ejiofor Uche, was not opposed, as the Police had no representation in court.

The court granted the bail application, and freed the women unconditionally.

Speaking shortly after the court’s verdict, the Police prosecutor, Theaddus Okay, told newsmen that the Police had no representation because the matter had been referred to the state ministry of justice for legal counsel and decision.

Meanwhile, their freedom sparked wild jubilation on the court premises and within Owerri, the state capital as most of the women could be seen singing victory songs
