President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the Federal Government’s takeover of the Gombe State Airport.

This was disclosed to State House correspondents on Friday by Gombe State governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, after meeting with President Buhari in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the governor, the planned takeover of the airport would be in the best interest of the facility as it would ensure the availability of the needed funding for its maintenance throughout its lifespan.

Recall that in June, officials of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had inspected facilities at the Gombe International Airport and certified it for the airlift of Muslim pilgrims in the state to Saudi Arabia.

Yahaya said “The most important development is the takeover of the Gombe Airport by the federal government, which Mr. President has approved.

“It means there will be more resources and there’ll be proper management and we shall see to the fact that it is expanded, so that economic activities will be enhanced because of the presence of the airport, it has other facilities that will enhance business activities around,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor has disclosed that the Gombe State Investment Summit will be held in the first week of October, explaining that the summit was important to boosting the economy of the state and its environs.
