The Police arrest of three persons in Town Brass over alleged involvement in kidnapping and alleged armed robbery yesterday triggered a new row between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Town Brass,Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
While the police authorities identifies two of the arrested suspect were adentified as Christopher About, 44 years and Peter Roadpower, 35 years old They are both indigent of Southern Ijaw but residing in Brass Community.
Some members of the APC in Brass Local Government insisted that a member of the Security Action Committee in the local government area and known as Mr Loveday Digighabofa a.k.a Sayi was also arrested.
It was gathered that the alleged member of the recently constituted Action Committee, was arrested with questionable phone numbers linking him to kidnapping and huge some sum of money in his bank account.
The APC members in Brass also claimed that commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Okada,working for the Action Committee member, was found to be in possession of unexplained huge amount in his bank account.
They claimed that the decision of the police to exclude the Action Committee member from the list of arrested members is allegedly dubious and allegedlly facilitated by the local Government Chairman, Hon.Victor Isiah.
It was gathered that the alleged exclusion of the Action Committee member was to avoid embarrassment following the critiam that greeted the dissolution and setting up of the committee..The Chairman of the Local Government Council allegedly handed over two suspected members instead of three to the Police.
But the spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, AsImin Butswat, who confirmed the arrest of two persons, said the police in Brass Divisional Command arrested two persons suspected to be involved in alleged kidnapping activities.
According to Butswat, “At about 7.20pm on the 18th of June, 2018, police arrested one Christopher About, 49 years old, an indigene of Ikibiri community in Southern Ijaw but residing in Town Brass and One Peter Foodpower, 35years, Akebiri-Ejwtu in Southern Ijaw local Government Area but residing in Brass Investogation is ongoing. ”

Meanwhile, The Caretaker Committee (CTC) Chairman of Brass LGA, Hon. Victor Isaiah, has described as frivolous a story published on social media alleging that one of his aides was involved in sea-piracy and kidnapping in the area.
Hon. Victor Isaiah who was reacting to the online news story published Social Media said the publication was riddled with lies aimed discrediting him for taking the bull by the horns to make the LGA area safe.
Describing the report as the handiwork of some disgruntled elements who had links to the Action Committee which he dissolved earlier this month, the Chairman noted that the modest achievements his efforts had yielded in the area of peace after he set up the Temporary Action Committee was what had resulted in attempt to blackmail him.
“The Action Committee set up by the Youth President of Twon-Brass was dissolved when it was discovered that most of the members are cultists and security reports that some members were involved in an evil plot to embarrass the Governor of the state on his visit.
“The general public should do well to ask the dissolved Action Committee how many criminals they caught or arrested. But this Temporary Action Committee I inaugurated has successfully arrested no fewer than four notorious kidnappers in less than two weeks after its inauguration”
Hon. Victor Isaiah who made it clear that none of the persons working directly with him as aide was involved in criminality as being alleged, called on the public to discountenance the distorted and misleading Social Media report, and equally advised the security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter with a view to anyone found culpable so as to rid Brass LGA of all forms of criminality.
