ADVERT RATE

BY: MONDAY ALEMU

It’s no longer news that Bayelsa State was created on October 1st, 1996. So, Bayelsa in retrospect will truly convince every honest hearted person to get angry with the low level of development of the state.

The Gubernatorial aspirants for Bayelsa 2019 should answer the following questions as they drum up towards the primary election of their respective political parties:

1. Do you believe that Yenagoa has not been developed into what the city deserves as a modern state capital in Nigeria?

2. What is your plan for the eight local govt headquarters, if you become the very next governor of the state?

3. Do you know how many tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State that are owned and funded by the state government? And what will you do to improve the status of these tertiary institutions? Are you willing to subsidise or reduce the highly exorbitant school fees paid by each student in these institutions?

4. What are your intentions for the teeming unemployed graduates in Bayelsa State? Can you create jobs for them? How will you do it?

5. Would you be comfortable if Bayelsa State remains without sustainable electricity? In that respect what do you intend to do, so as to improve the situation?

6. How would you treat civil servants if you get into office as the next governor of the state? Will you pay salaries promptly? How will you heal the wounds of pensioners? Would you pay their legitimate GRATUITIES to them?

7. In what ways would you raise the level of the state internally generated revenue (IGR)? Do you think it is proper for a state government to relax and simply depend on the monthly allocation accruing to it from the federation account to run its affairs?

8. Are you ready to complete viable projects in various parts of the state that have been left in the lurch by successive administrations? Would you embrace CONTINUITY as a model and vital ingredient for GOOD GOVERNANCE in Bayelsa State?

9. How would you encourage industrial growth/development in Bayelsa State? Would you be able to attract foreign investors to establish audable businesses and build factories in Bayelsa State, outside the crude oil sector?

10. Can you tackle the menace of INSECURITY in Bayelsa State? In what ways do you hope to make the youth become self reliant?

11. What are your plans for host communities to crude oil prospecting companies?

12. Successive administrations have failed to establish any sustainable industries in the state to encourage manufacturing and to reduce the level of poverty in Bayelsa State. What do you intend to do regarding this?

13. Do you agree to run an all inclusive govt with the supremacy of the peoples’ will? Similarly, do you agree that the governor is a servant of the people, and the people are his master?

14. In what ways do you think you can raise up the general living conditions of Bayelsans, especially in terms of food security and health insurance? Do you believe that the Bayelsa State Health Insurance Scheme is supposed to cater for both civil servants and the unemployed?

15. In terms of political appointments, how will you balance the equation? This question is very vital because several governors have ended up recycling the same persons with no consideration for others, especially the very committed ones who have been with them even in rainstorms and troublesome seasons.

Above all, Bayelsans seem not to remain idle if the incoming governor doesn’t care to address

the critical issues affecting the state. And for that let everyone aspiring for the governorship do

well to examine himself before the primary election. Remember that it is not an easy task to become a state governor and to do the will of the people.

Good luck to every aspirant as we eagerly wait to see the results of the primary elections in due season, according to the timetable of INEC.
