Apologize for working against Gov Fubara during 2023 elections – Rivers group tells Benjamin Okaba, INC

A frontline group in Rivers state that stood firm to support Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the 2023 elections, ‘Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM)’ has reacted to comments made by the leadership of Ijaw National Congress (INC), Prof. Benjamin Okaba, over the current political issues in Rivers State.

In a Press Statement issued after an intensive meeting with all it’s stakeholders from the 23 LGAs in Rivers State, RRM frowned at a Release made by the President of INC titled BEWARE OF THE IDES MARCH IN RIVERS STATE, IJAW NATION CAUTIONS AGAIN.

RRM Press statement signed by its Director General, Hon Johnson Georgewill and its Secretary, Mrs Sarima Akpata, disclosed that the INC under Prof. Benjamin Okaba worked against the emergence of Gov Sim Fubara in 2023 and wondered how the same person they worked against has become their brother.

The group asked Prof. Benjamin Okaba, INC President, to apologize to Rivers people for betraying governor Fubara during the 2023 elections and working against his emergence as governor.

The Press Statement read below;

“RRM as a group take exception to the comments made by the leadership of INC in a Press Release on the issue going on in Rivers State based on the following fact;

“1. Rivers Restoration Movement knows this as a fact that the Benjamin Okaba led INC worked against the emergence of Gov Sim Fubara in 2023 when the political leader of Rivers State and Minister Of The FCT, H.E Nyesom Wike, did everything with the help of God and his faithful followers to ensure Gov Sim is victorious, so one begins to wonder the intention of these new found love to a man they said wasn’t a true Ijaw Man

“2. RRM finds it laughable that INC will caution Mr President’s body language, neutrality, honesty and good faith when they all know Mr President was the Pillar behind the peace deal that was brokered in the villa with all parties signing to the agreement on the 18 of December 2023 only for Gov Fubara to renege and disobey almost everything Mr President told him to do as a father.

“3. It is public knowledge from the 8 point peace pact signed that;

*a*) Gov Sim refused to recognize the leadership of Rt Hon Martins Ahmaehule and 26 others as agreed but INC was no where to be found.

*b*) INC was also silent when Gov Sim refused to allow the RSHA to choose where to sit and perform their legislative duties.

*c)* Prof Benjamin Okaba was silent when Gov Sim refused to represent the 2024 budget as agreed in Aso Rock and signed by all parties.

*d)* The Gov also refused to adhere to the agreement that LGA structures will not be tampered with and Caretakers Members will not be formed as agreed but INC didn’t think it wise to release an official presss statement then.

*e*) It was on the foundation of all these flagrant disobedience to almost all the agreement reached that the Martins led RSHA decided to thread with  caution after they withdrew their IMPEACHMENT NOTICE in line with the peace deal brokered by our father and President, H E. President Bola Tinubu GCFR.

“Finally, RRM want to make it clear to Rivers people that 90% of Ijaw politicians and major stakeholders that worked for the victory of Gov Sim Fubara in 2023 under the leadership of the then Gov, H.E Nyesom Wike are standing Solidly behind the political leader of Rivers State and Minister of the FCT because Ijaws are grateful people. A clear example is having 10 out of the 12 Ijaw slots in the Rivers State House Of Assembly members standing on the side of truth with former Gov Wike.

“RRM is advising the Ijaw National Congress led by Prof Benjamin Okaba to look inwards and first apologize to Rivers people for betraying their son when in 2023 they worked against the emergence of Gov Sim Fubara. While the Eastern Zone leaders of the same organization followed same line to betray Gov Sim when the  Minister of the FCT and his team worked day and night to ensure victory for Gov Sim Fubara.

“RRM is appealing to the Minister of the FCT and Political leader of Rivers State to ignore comments from INC because we all know the  Ijaws are grateful and have loyal leaders that can complete the tenure of the Ijaws through constitutional democratic process,” the statement concluded.
