The battle before Senator Friday Konbowei Benson, Senator Representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, had been on fire for alleged forgery of his NYSC certificate.

In a letter currently circulating on Social Media from the NYSC and signed by Okonofua K.N for on behalf of the Director-General has denied issuing the document which Senator Benson reportedly submitted to INEC to secure his senatorial seat

NYSC DENIED ISSUING CERTIFICATE TO KONBOWEI BENSON

Recall that the Senator KONBOWEI FRIDAY BENSON, was arraigned on three counts bordering on forgery of his National Youth Service Corps exemption certificate No. 000256454 among others.

The counsel for the prosecution, Rubben Egwaba, had opposed his bail application during the hearing of his bail application on Thursday, 28th March, 2024. He noted that the defendant would interfere with his trial if granted bail.

He said, While the charge was filed, the defendant (Konbowei Friday Benson) took several steps to interfere with the matter. He also wrote a lot of petitions against me to truncate the matter. We urge My Lord to refuse the application.”

WHAT THE CONSTITUTION SAYS ABOUT CERTIFICATE FORGERY

Punishment of forgery in general. Any person who forges any document, writing, or seal, is guilty of an offence which, unless otherwise stated, is a felony, and he is liable, if no other punishment is provided, to imprisonment for three years under Section 463 of the Criminal Code. While Sections 362 to 364 of the Penal Code address forgery offenses, with penalties reaching up to 14 years of imprisonment.

NAIJA LIVE TV, on Thursday, 28th March, 2024, reported a N50million bail condition granted the Bayelsa Senator with two sureties having landed properties within the Court’s jurisdiction, which is Abuja.

In confirmation, Senator Konbowei’s Legal Team, in a statement, revealed that “Senator Konbowei Benson, has since met his bail conditions.”

The trial judge adjourned the matter till June 24, 25 and 27 for hearing
