Why IGP team Arrested Bayelsa Central PDP Senatorial candidate, Konbowei Benson over alleged fake NYSC/FLSC certificates

A team of Police Officers from the Inspector-General of Police office, FCIID on Wednesday had arrested Rt. Hon. Konbowei Friday Benson in his Yenagoa residence. He was taken to the Bayelsa State CID for interrogation, where he made his statement voluntarily and subsequently granted administrative bail to appear before the Inspector-General of Police for further interrogation in the Force Headquarters, Abuja on Friday,16/9/2022.

Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson Friday is the immediate past Secretary to Bayelsa State Government, two times Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly between 2012-2019.

NAIJA LIVE TV learned that the ordeal of Rt.Hon. Konbowei Benson Friday started when he presented some suspected academic credentials to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District primary election on the 24th of May, 2022 against the incumbent, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe and had acclaimed to have won the said primary election.

The incumbent Senator being dissatisfied with the suspected academic credentials, Rt.Hon Konbowei Benson Friday submitted to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) in previous elections applied and got Certified True Copies(CTCs) of Forms and credentials attached therein from the appropriate authorities and filed a case against him, challenging his eligibility to have contested the said primary election with him, having presented fake certificates to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) to contest the Party primary election and previous elections and asked the court to disqualify Rt. Hon Konbowei Benson Friday and declare him as the winner of the election.

The certificates allegedly suspected to be forged and were submitted by Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson Friday includes, an NYSC Certificate of Exemption issued on the 4th of July,2008 and a First School Leaving Certificate ( FSLC) dated 1976.

NAIJA LIVE TV gathered that, Rt.Hon Konbowei Benson Friday landed in trouble when he filed a separate case at the Federal High Court, Yenagoa against the Inspector-General of Police and Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as Defendants, asking the court to restrain the Police to investigate him and also alledged that, the Defendants are infringing on his fundamental rights and asked the court to award him One Hundred Million Naira Only ( #100,000,000) from the Defendants. However, the court refused to grant the Exparte order and asked the plaintiff to put parties on Notice to go on to hear the substantive matter.

The two cases are coming up on the 29th and 30th of September respectively at the Federal High Court, Yenagoa.
