ABSENTEE COUNCIL STAFF TO FORFEIT SALARIES — HON. BELLO BINA

…. Staff Accept 50 Percent Salary Payment Effective From March, 2016.

The caretaker Committee Chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Hon. Bello Bina, has warned that staff of the Council, who habitually absent themselves from work would henceforth forfeit their salaries.

The Chairman, who gave the warning at the Council Secretariat in Twon-Brass said his administration would invoke the “no work, no pay” as contained in the Public Service Rules, adding that a situation where some staff completely abandon their duty posts for months, only to resurface during salary payment was no longer acceptable.

Hon. Bina, who met an almost empty Council Secretariat on arrival there on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, to commence payment of February salaries to workers of the Council, frowned at the attitude of some staff, who do not come to work at all.

Speaking at a brief meeting he held with staff of the Council, the Chairman said beginning with the next salary payment, only those who come to work regularly would be paid.

Hon. Bina also called for a cordial working relationship between the staff and management and promised to make human capacity development a priority.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the Brass Council, Comrade ThankGod Singer and other staff resolved to co-operate with the chairman for the betterment of the council.

The council staff also lauded the chairman’s leadership style of an open door policy.

At the meeting, staff of the Council accepted the payment of 50 percent salaries to workers with effect from March 2016 until there is a significant improvement of the statutory allocations to the Council.
In a related development, the Chairman of Brass Local Government Council, Hon. Bello Bina, has issued cheques for the payment of January salaries to primary school teachers and non-teaching staff in the local government area.

Issuing the cheques to the head-teachers in Twon-Brass, the Chairman assured them that their full February salaries would also be paid in two weeks’ time, thereafter, the Council would adopt the 50 percent salary payment for teachers in view of the present economic realities affecting all tiers of government in the country.

Meanwhile, the head teachers of the various public primary schools in the local government area saw reasons with the Chairman and accepted the 50 percent salary proposal starting with the month of March 2016.
