Abians have used the opportunity of the festive period to call for peace, unity, and progress as the state and Nigeria in general celebrate the Christmas and New Year.

They include the state governor, Alex Otti, the senator representing Abia North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, His Eminence, Apostle General Emmanuel Agomuoh of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, Umuahia, who is also the immediate past chairman of Abia State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

In his message, Otti said, “I call for peace in all the communities. Traditional rulers, leaders of development and age-grade associations, women and youth groups are encouraged to come together in the spirit of Christmas to drive the process of reconciliation in places where there had been disputes, as nothing can be achieved in an atmosphere of strife and social anxiety.

“At all times, we must bear in mind that maintaining the peace in our homes and communities is everyone’s responsibility, but as stakeholders, we must be at the forefront.

“This is also a good time to initiate community development projects. It is gratifying to note that many influential community leaders have bought into our message of holistic development in every part of the state, and would be launching several projects this Christmas to drive human capital development, expand community infrastructure and support the vulnerable.”

Otti assured that his administration would continue to work to make every part of the state attractive to domestic and foreign investors,

He assured, “Security remains a priority for the state and we have taken that every part of the state is safe and secured.”

Former governor of Abia State and now, Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatization, Senator Kalu, urged Nigerians to embrace peace and unity this yuletide season and going forward, stressing the imperative of unity as a panacea for development, advising that Nigeria’s diversity should be explored for nation building.

Kalu added that the country is blessed with human capital and natural resources, saying, “No doubt, like every other country, it has been a challenging year, but there are still many reasons for us to celebrate as a nation. The country will wax stronger if all and sundry play their respective roles with patriotism.

“Let us support leaders at the helm of affairs at various levels of government in a bid to build a prosperous nation. The holiday period should be used for sober reflection as individuals and as a nation for a brighter tomorrow.

“We should use this special season to offer prayers for leaders at the national, sub-national and local government levels. Together, we can build a nation of our dream.”

Similarly, His Eminence, Apostle General Agomuoh of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, Umuahia, and the immediate past chairman of CAN, Abia State, in his message to humanity, pleaded with all to be nearer to God and shun vices detrimental to human existence.

He also admonished the rich to remember the indigent as they celebrate and show them love.
