A Youth Leader, Hon. Ebi Francis has commended the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri for the eviction notice given to all occupants of the Old Chelsea Hotel in Abuja, owned by the State Government.
NAIJA LIVE TV gathered that, the Governor had ordered the immediate eviction of the illegal occupants of the state owned property following an appeal from some concerning citizens of the State, raising concerns of criminal activities perpetrated by residence of Old Chelsea Hotel Abuja
Hon. Francis, who halls from the Bayelsa State in a Statement on Thursday said that, Some hoodlums and miscreants of all kinds under the guise of Bayelsans were perpetuating different criminal activities using the state owned property as a guise to pepetrate hiniuse crime portraying Bayelsa State in a bad light.
He went further to applaud the decision of Senator Douye Diri for leasing out the multi-billion naira property lying fallow at the Central Area District in Abuja, Hon. Francis reiterated that, before the eviction notice by the Governor, the Old Chelsea Hotel was a haven for drug abuse and other criminal activities at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
He pointed out that one Mr. Ebipade Waribebe also known as “Acrucia Man” was allegedly the drug kingpin within the Old Chelsea Hotel premises.
Hon. Francis said; “On one occasion the area commander of the Nigeria Police, Maitama, sent his boys to take a look at the premises.”
“On arrival the police caught residents publicly smoking Indian hemp and other banned substances within the premises.”
“They were also arrested and later released. In another incident was Mr. Nathan Ayebatonye, a resident of Old Chelsea Hotel had conspired and stole a Toyota Camry car at gun point.”
“He allegedly brought the car to the premises and used it for a long period and later sold it. He was subsequently arrested by the operatives of the Nigeria Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Abattoir, FCT- Abuja.”
“He was detained for a long period until his family agreed to buy a new car for the original owner of the vehicle.”
“Another incidence of armed robbery allegedly planned by a resident of the Old Chelsea Hotel named Victor Bebesei, was carried out at Gwarimpa where they (armed robbery suspects) were caught by men of the Nigeria Police, Gwarinpa Division and subsequently charged to court.”
“Also between 2015 till date, there have been various incidences of residents of Old Chelsea Hotel caught shop-lifting valuable items from Grand Square Shopping Mall.”
“About 4yrs. ago, one Mr. Excel Obele (now late) allegedly organised kidnapping operation from Old Chelsea Hotel and along with his cohorts went to Kubwa, kidnapped a victim, put the victim in the booth of their vehicle.”
“The suspects were intercepted and arrested at a military checkpoint and handed over to the SARS.”
The Youth leader use the medium to appreciate the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri for taking the bold steps to reclaim the state owned property to generate more funds for the state instead

“As a citizen of Bayelsa state, I find it worthy of commendation to applaud the decision of Senator Douye Diri to lease out that multi-billion naira property lying fallow in Central Area District, Serving as a den for hoodlums, miscreants of all kinds under the guise of Bayelsans perpetuating all act of evil, portraying the state in a bad light.”
“I felt it is even too late but it’s better now than never, for the Governors to take this bold step to use that property to generate funds for the state, because the state as it is, is in dare need of infrastructural development, and instead of that property to be wasting in the den of criminals from Delta and Bayelsa State as well as other states, the property should be used to generate revenue for Bayelsa state.”
