A Nollyhood film maker and and aspirant for the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Thompson Igoro has has unveiled his aspiration to contest the 2023 race for State House of Assembly, declaring that he believes in the independence of the legislature and functionality of constituency office for the good and benefit of the constituents.
Igoro, who is seeking to contest the state legislative election on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) for the Ogbia constituency 2 seat, said he wanted to eradicate the toga of “rubber stamp” legislature, bring back the golden days of legislation and responsible politicking to the State Assembly.
Thompson Igoro, who is a native of Ewema and Epebu communities in Ogbia Local Government Area, of Bayelsa State and a professional film maker with skills on Film and TV Production on NAFTI, Accra Ghana. in 2012.He is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN) and Association of Movie Producers (AMP).
Thompson Igoro, who disclosed this on Friday at a session with Journalists in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, lamented that the present lawmakers, both at the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition party, All Progressive Congress (APC), had grossly failed those they represent and made themselves laughing stocks by hanging on to the apron string of the executive arm of government and become rubber stamps to numeus and ineffective policies.
He said Communities in his constituency will be carried along in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of constituency project through organization of regular constituency bi-annual meetings, “Construction of Obhan Anyama House that will consist of the office of the Royal Majesty, office of the Obhan Anyama Youth Assembly, office of the House of Assembly and an event hall that will be used for the bi-annual meetings. Prior to the constituency road Construction: The establishment of Obhan Anyama Local Boat that will save as a major means of transportation of goods and services from Swali market Yenagoa to and fro Emadike community. Free transportation of the people of Obhan Anyama to and fro, only a token fee be paid of the loaded goods.”
Igoro, who pledged to be a true person of selflessness, responsibility, fairness, courage, hardwork and commitment to Social Justice and empowerment, said “My aim for contesting for the seat is solely based on improving the people’s welfare, unity and bringing about social justice. I strongly believe the attainment of these aforementioned goals will bring about improvement in the standard of living and general wellbeing of the people of Ogbia constituency II.”
“As part of my contribution to the wellbeing of my Bayelsa state, I organized a free Film making and Acting training in 2021, to bring aspiring film makers into Nollywood and almost 100 youths benefited. I will leave no stone unturned to enhance the growth and development of the Constituency. Special attention to be paid to legislation that will improve Education, Youth, Men and Women Empowerment, Infrastructure and Industrial Development, Health, Sports, entertainment and Social Services and Community Development”.
“These will be achieved through the sponsoring and Co-Sponsoring relevant Bills and Motions that will impact positively on the good people of Ogbia Constituency ll, facilitating gainful employment and access to poverty reduction schemes of the Federal and State Government, encouraging the establishment of Small and Medium Scale businesses and championing literacy excellence at all levels of Education through financial support for students in full-time study. Establishment of free educational coaching centers for learners preparing for external examinations such as Basic Entrance Certificate Examination (BECE), WAEC, NECO, UTME etc, support for Health Care Institutions, Orphanages, HIV/AIDS advocacy and general Health related Campaigns and Promoting ICT capacity among the Youths there by up scaling access to Technology and Poverty Skill acquisition with Starter-packs”
He said despite the inconsistencies displayed by the present executive arms of government in the state in area of issuing directive on the ownership of farms by members of the Legislature and appointees of government, he will ensure that Agriculture, the mainstay of Obhan Ayama Economy, will be given holistic attention. Aside from support to Farmers through purchase of seedlings, implements, insecticides and equipment for primary processing, working with other levels of government. I will ensure that Obhan Ayama farmers get their fair share of available resources and opportunities”.
“In all, I promise to be accessible, reachable and make Obhan Ayama people proud, and represent Obhan Ayama honestly and respectfully, to the best of my abilities. Power has only one duty, to secure the social welfare of the people. So, for me the wellbeing of my people is paramount. If the Almighty God and you enable me step forward into office is just for one reason to protect the poor, the helpless and the defenseless. What our constituency need are a lot more for fairness in distributing assets, and a lot less sell-out to Moscow. I understand common people and I stand for the common people.

He however admonished voters to desist from selling their votes in exchange of financial inducement ahead of the upcoming elections, ”A voter who receives gratification of any kind to cast a vote has not only kept himself or herself below the poverty line but has made it impossible to hold his or her representative accountable”.
