ADVERT RATE

The APC campaign Organisation for Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi for Senate in the Bayelsa West Senatorial District bye-election slated for October 31, 2020 has dismissed the advocacy and call in certain quarters that the PDP candidate in the said bye-election be honoured with the Senate seat for the simple reason of being someone that had served the state for two tenures (eight uneventful years).

The campaign organisation in a press statement sent to NAIJA LIVE TV and signed by its Director General, Hon. Ofoni D. Williams has said that the call is not only misplaced but also ruse.

According to Hon. ofoni D. williams, the advocacy is an attempt to unnecessarily compare Hon. H. S. Dickson with our late sage, Senator Melford okilo, who was rewarded with the Senate seat by virtue of his impeccable democratic antecedents.

The Campaign Organization reiterates that the people of Bayelsa State and the Izon Nation ensured that the later was honoured with the Senate seat based on his positive strides and legacy that had stood the test of time.

It could be recalled that Senator Melford Okilo painstakingly engaged in what it describes as “transformational leadership” as he undertook policies and programmes that created far-reaching impact on the quality of lives of the people of old Rivers state, including the decision to provide affordable electricity for the entire state. But Hon. H. S. Dickson displayed administrative ineptitude as he was unabled to ensure steady power supply for just six LGAs of the old Rivers State that now formed the present day Bayelsa State.

The campaign DG Hon. ofoni D. Williams noted further that the advocacy is a mark of disrespect for senator Melford okilo and has suggestively suggested that the advocates should seize to do so forthwith.

Moreso, the Campaign Organisation dismisses the said political propaganda on the basis that it amounts to the undesirable practice of rewarding failure that strides on the length and breath of Bayelsa state, which represents the agonizing legacies bequeathed to the people of the state while Hon. H. S. Dickson reigned as governor.

In the same vein, the campaign DG has noted that it will further misrepresent Bayelsa state and the Izon Nation the manner and nature of our reward system.

On the strength of the above, the APC Campaign outfit has expressed high level of disillusionment and disappointment that a few narrow-minded individuals are praise-singing and putting forward the notion that Hon. H. S. Dickson will be the mouthpiece and voice of Izon Nation is, by all intents and purposes, a ill-conceived notion as it does not represent the true identity of the said PDP candidate of the Bayelsa West Senatorial bye-election.

It believes that this has further been supported by the fact that the Izon Nation is richly blessed with dedicated personalities, who, even by training as lawyers and legislators, are by far his seniors.

The likes of Senators James Manager and George Sekibo, both of whom are from the same Izon extraction and representing the Izon race, readily come to mind in terms of becoming the mouthpiece of Izon Nation.

It states that the developmental strides of the duo are worthy of note.
And Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi will definitely compliment and contribute positively as he becomes the Senator to represent Bayelsa State via the bye-election slated for 31st October, 2020.

The campaign DG, Hon. Ofoni D. Williams has opined that one does not need to be in the Senate in order to be a voice or symbol of Izon Nation. It could be recalled that late Major Adaka Boro was not even a mere councillor before he became a symbol of Izon race and beyond. Likewise, Ken- Saro Wiwa of blessed memory became iconic without being a political office holder.

Moreso, Pa E.K.Clark is not in the Senate, yet he remains a relentless voice and force from the region and beyond. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is another shining example, who has shown uncommon dedication to the well being of Izon Nation and beyond without necessarily being a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; not also forgetting our own enthusiastic Joseph Evah.

Therefore, the campaign D.G., Hon. Ofoni D. Williams has advised members of the PDP to justify the choice of Hon. H. S Dickson as candidate of the forthcoming bye-elections with cogent and verifiable reasons of his Senatorial ambition rather than disturbing the peace of the air waves with irrelevant issues and prayed that they do not resort to their usual trade of election rigging and violence that was precipitated in the past, where election materials did not get to wards such as the cases in Salga Wards 1(Agbere), 6, 11 and 12. Surprisingly, results were entered in favour of the PDP despite the fact that elections did not hold in the above-said wards and the results were also accepted by INEC in the immediate past Governorship elections in the state. It states that the later will not be encouraged and accepted because it remains the duty of INEC and Security agencies to ensure that voting rights of Bayelsans are not shortchanged by their lapses or failure to do the needful.
