A member of the US army who caters for personal needs of President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement on Thursday, Hogan Gidley, deputy White House press secretary, said upon the confirmation that the valet was positive, Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence have had to take the test again but that they tested negative for the disease.

Valet are members of an elite military corps that attend to the personal needs of the US president and his family.

“We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus,” CNN quoted Gidley as saying.

“The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health,”

This will be the second time Trump would be tested for the disease.

The president was first tested in April when it was feared that he might have had contact with someone who tested positive for the disease at the time.

Speaking on the development with journalists, Trump said he had “very little contact” with the soldier.

“I have had very little contact, personal contact, with this gentleman,” he said.

So far, the US has recorded 1.2 million cases of COVID-19. While 217, 251 people have recovered from the disease, 76,938 have died from it, according to Worldometer.
