UN SECURITY COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY EXTENDS SANCTIONS ON ARMED GROUPS IN CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC

In foreign news, the United Nations Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution extending sanctions against armed groups and individuals operating in the Central African Republic, CAR.

The renewed measures include asset freezes, travel bans and restrictions on the supply of weapons and military equipment to armed groups.

Council members acknowledged the country’s progress in democratic governance, security and the restoration of state authority.

However, they warned that armed groups and cross-border arms trafficking networks continue to pose a serious threat to stability, particularly in border areas.
