Former governor of Bayelsa state and Minister of state for Petroleum Resources Chief Timipre Sylva on Wednesday, in Yenagoa, paid a condolence visit to the family of the recently deceased veteran journalist Kingsley Ladein

Sylva, represented by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, described the loss as ‘sad and monumental’. Mr Bokoru described the ace reporter as one of the ‘best and most dogged we had in the southernmost parts of this country. He always stood for what was right and today words seem hollow and insufficient in describing such genius, such painful loss’

Bokoru was accompanied by Bayelsa’s press hierarchy including the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mr Sammy Numonengi, coordinator of the International Institute Of Journalism (Bayelsa) Mr Roland Elekele, Bayelsa Federated Newspapers Publishers Association Chairman, Mr Ayibatari Easterday and other top state and national journalists

‘The honourable minister is not oblivious of your loss. In the coming months we will explore ways we can assist the family, beyond what we have done today, we consider the closely knitted press family in Bayelsa state as another arm of progress and development of the state so we are here to show solidarity, to express that the Bayelsa press family is very dear to us’

Kingsley Ladein, until his death last week, was the publisher of Independent Recorder Newspapers, an outfit that, for decades, preached equity, fairness and justice
