YENAGOA — The Bayelsa State chapter of the APC Integrity Group, a support group of the ruling national party, has berated the Senator Douye Diri-led prosperity administration for reportedly taking credit for the construction of the Sagbama/ Ekeremor road.

The group insisted that the road project was conceived and completed fully by ex-governor Seriake Dickson and not the incumbent.

In a statement by its Chairman, Fred Ayabowei on Sunday, the group stated that a massive billboard with the governor’s picture and that of the commissioner for works are being displayed, with an inscription that says the Sagbama/Ekeremor road was built by him.

The group described the claim as an insult to the sensibility of the citizenry, maintaining that Bayelsans are now wiser and will not accept such lies.

The statement reads in part:

“It’s on record that the bridge from Ayamasa to Isampou was constructed by Seriake Dickson who brought Douye Diri. The Ofoni and Aleibiri bridges were also completed by that same administration.

“Bayelsans are angry that the so-called miracle governor cannot transform Bayelsa except for the commissioning of uncompleted projects in spite of the billions entering the state’s cash box.

“He should not get us angrier by taking glory for the Sagbama/Ekeremor road.

“APC Integrity Group expects the state government to tell Bayelsans the true state of the project and possibly mention that we are adding asphalt, building a few small culverts and doing other finishing touches.

“What Douye Diri government is claiming as bridges are small culverts, either one or two, which a local government chairman can easily do.

“Claiming that the project was done by Diri is deliberately feeding Bayelsa people with lies.”

The APC group noted that while it will always chide Dickson for his style of leadership as governor and for supporting Diri to become Governor, the body cannot be mute while the government allegedly lies about a project.

“Let it be on record that, the likes of the Former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi and other notable politicians celebrated that road.

“Motorists to the best of our knowledge have also been using the said road since 2015, so we wonder this kind of noise and propaganda the state government and their paid media boys are making,” the group asserted.

Ayabowei averred that his group is interested in the development of Bayelsa State and wants the government to use the stupendous allocation to build infrastructures like it’s obtainable in Lagos, Borno and neighboring states.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Government in a recent statement by Hon. Ayibaina Duba, Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy on Sunday revealed that the 42km stretch of the Sagbama-Ekeremor road, with five of the seven bridges, was built from scratch by the administration.

“Already, the asphalting of the road has reached Ayamasa community in Ekeremor Local Government Area.

“The duration of this project being constructed by Setraco is 24 months at a cost of N34.486bn,” the statement reads.
