An 100 level student of the Bayelsa state owned varsity,the Niger Delta University, Ammassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area,Seiyefa Fred was yesterday shot dead by suspected cultists during an attempts to snatch her mobile phone.

Miss Seiyefa Fred, who is in her teens, was shot dead yesterday at

Amarata area of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state.capital.

It was gathered that Miss Seiyesa Fred was shot dead while resisting and refusing to give them her smartphone.

According to eyewitnesses, “the incident happened at about 8pm beside Zenith Bank in Amarata area. The suspected street cultists, who were on the prowl, shot her and ran away with her phone leaving her dead on the ground.”

“Resident of the area came out and rushed her to the hospital, but she later passed out. She is currently at the mortuary.

Already, most of the residents of the Bayelsa State capital blamed the State Government and the State Command of the Nigerian Police for the poor Security arrangement that allowed cultists to roam free around town, killing and injuring residents.

A check showed that the red spots in the state, where suspected cultists hold sway, include the Obele, Abor Road, Saint Peters area, Amarata, Kpansia, Opolo and Tombia area of the State capital.

While many claimed the killings and violent crimes is as a result of the frosty relationship between the Governor Seriake Dickson and the Bayelsa Police Command over choice of State Police Commissioner.

Others claimed the State Police Command is due to have a special shake up due to the rising alleged corruption among the rank and file and officers of the command. Most arrested notorious cultists are arrested, detained and released with amount such as N400,000 or N800,000 exchanging hands with the Director of Public Prosecution allegedly recommending no case submission.

It would be recalled that when the residents took laws into their hands and embarked on mass jungle justice for cultists and criminals, some know former cultists and leaders of the various cult gangs in the state became worried and mount mass campaign against the actions.

Some stakeholders on the facebook page of deceased Niger Delta University Student called for a proper review of the State Security system and ensure that a special security outfit such as Famou Tamgbe, a security outfit initiated during the administration of the Former Governor,Chief Timipre Sylva is brought back.

They blamed the Governor Seriake Dickson administration of frustrating the police security arrangement on the platter form of politics. They accused him of wicked penchant for raising alarm whenever a police commissioner is replaced from police Headquaters.

Governor Dickson recently accused the newly deployed Commissioner of Police of being loyal to the All Progressive Congress (APC). At the last count, over seven Police Commissioner have been posted to Bayelsa State on the last few months.

On the deceased Seifa Fred page, one Gideon Whill G Owili wrote,”Bayelsa state is being insecure a friend of mine seyifa Fred which was one of my hardcore fan, which was online some hours ago just got shot to dead Cause of a phone which she gave them, they shot her and took the phone @amarata zenith bank axis.”

” What is Bayelsa state turning into and we have security in this state I write in tears and in deep sorrows please change the government SERIAKE DICKSON..”

Another facebook, Diweri Benibile Arowosoki, said “Till it happens to their children, they won’t take action. That’s how my sister Was Robbed at gun point in gwegwe few weeks ago, after d whole robbery d boys had d guts to tell her correct girl, u too much. She was even inside private car.”
