A tribunal court sitting in Abuja has ordered Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the incumbent deputy governor of Bayelsa state to produce his certificates, following a petition raised by Vijah Eldred Opuama.

At the close of pleadings during the pre-hearing stage and upon the issuance of pre-hearing report, the Bayelsa state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja has commanded the state deputy governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to appear before it at the start of hearing of the petition on 1 June 2020.

This followed the issuance of subpoena duces tecum on 5th May 2020 and served on the deputy governor of Bayelsa state who is listed as the fourth respondent on 8 May 2020 in the election petition filed by the petitioner, Vijah Opuama of Liberation Movement.

Others listed as respondents include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Governor Douye Diri as first, second and third respondents respectively

Earlier, the petitioner had alleged that the fourth respondent, the deputy governor, submitted forged documents and documents that contain false information to the first respondent in view the 16th November, 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa state. The petitioner is seeking to disqualify the second, third and fourth election and order for a fresh election without the disqualified PDP.
