The President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Dr. Ebidimie-Divine Irole, has said that over 20 of their members deployed to treat COVID-19 patients in the state have tested positive for the virus due to inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),

She, however, appealed to the Bayelsa COVID-19 Task Force to ensure adequate supply of PPE to their members handling cases of the virus to forestall more infections for health workers.

Dr. Irole who disclosed this on Thursday during an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa, said with the recent upsurge in the spread of coronavirus infections in the state, it was ideal that the state government protects those battling to save lives.

“As we speak, more than 20 doctors have tested positive and this call for concerted efforts for the COVID-19 response team to see the issue of PPE as a priority.

“We are still waiting for the implementation of the hazard allowance as announced by the federal government, we are very optimistic and hope that the state government extends the gesture to our counterparts at the state level.” she said.
