Ijaw Youths from the Nine States of the Niger Delta region under the aegis of the Movement for the Survival of the Ijaw ethnic nationality (MOSIEND) has faulted the setting up of the NDDC interim management committee, declaring that it negates the act establishing the interventionist agency.
According to MOSIEND, though the Minister of Niger Delta Affair, Oblong Victor Akpabio is mandated as a Minister to formulate policies that would promote effective operations of the commission, the recent actions of the Niger Delta Affairs is in suspect and it is an actual play of the script put together by the Bayelsa Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson.
The National Secretary of MOSIEND, Amb. Winston Cotterel Amain, in a statement issued via email, frowned at the alleged overbearing attitude of the Minister of Niger Delta Affair, Oblong Victor Akpabio, insisting that there is no provision for an interim management committee but because Akpabio is playing the script of Gov. Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State.
In his words “Akpabio has gone ahead to constitute an interim management committee with a plot to undermine the leadership of the opposition party, the APC in the Bayelsa State because of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the state”.
MOSIEND further warned that NDDC should not be used for political settlement and rivalry,”we will not fold its hands to allow Gov. Seriake Dickson and Akpabio to use NDDC for their political gimmicks”.
Furthermore, MOSIEND supports wholeheartedly, the plan by President, President Muhammad Buhari to carry out a Forensic Audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
However, MOSIEND insists that the interim management committee be disbanded with immediate effect and the newly screened Board Members be inaugurated for the interest of Peace and Stability in the oil rich region.
Moving forward, MOSIEND called on the factional President of the IJAW Youths Council (IYC), Bar. Oweilami Peretubo to stop making statements that will incite violence and crisis in the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC),”He (Oweilami) should rather think of resolving the numerous issues that have be devilled council since he took over the mantle of leadership of the IYC”.
Conclusively speaking, Amb. Amain unequivocally stated that MOSIEND will not relent in advocating for the development oil rich Niger Delta region.
