Controversy as alleged Amnesty staff demand N15,000 and N20,000 through Community chairmen for Amnesty undergraduate and Masters scholarships in Bayelsa communities.

NAIJA LIVE TV gathered that the ongoing compilation of names for the alleged Amnesty scholarship in Bayelsa state was carried out through the unsuspecting CDC chairmen of the communities (names withheld).

NAIJA LIVE TV learnt that CDC chairmen asked indigenes to pay certain amounts ranging from N15,000 to N20,000 for their names to be compiled for Masters and undergraduate scholarships alleged to have come from the Amnesty office.

Recall that the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, has stopped the issuing of fresh scholarships.

In a Press statement in early March, PAP had noted that it “is yet to resume award of fresh scholarships” and stated that “the public will be duly notified through the appropriate relevant channels when the scholarship award programme recommences.”

The recent writing of names with monetary conditions alleging to be chances given to selected communities in some LGAs has since spark reactions and doubt.

NAIJA LIVE TV further gathered that a self acclaimed staff of PAP from the Amnesty office called a particular Community chairman precisely in Sagbama LGA and asked him to compile 30 names for undergraduate and masters programs both in Nigeria and abroad.

Further findings revealed that the community chairman was asked to send a compiled names to a certain email claiming to be an email of PAP, while passports and other academic documents were asked to be sent to a mobile number through WhatsApp.

It was also learnt that the community chairmen, who were asked to compile names neither know the said Amnesty staff nor his identity.

The Amnesty office, when contacted about the genuineness of the said ongoing scholarship, has not responded at the filing of the report.
