“Our client’s attention has been drawn to the publication in the front page edition of the Saturday Sun of 5th September, 2020 with the caption ‘N712 Billion Looted By 3 Amnesty Coordinators’ wherein the photographs of Hon. Kuku, Gen. Boroh and Prof. Dokubo are conspicuously displayed, while the story is contained at page 27 of the Newspaper. Your publication purports to be a product of an unpublished investigation report by a Presidential Panel which was purported to have investigated alleged corruption in the amnesty programme.
“It may interest you to be informed that our client while serving as the Special Adviser to the president on Niger Delta and Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme, had an unblemished record of performance. No competent court of law had convicted our client for any the crimes you alleged to entitle our client. Our client was never invited nor questioned by a Presidential Panel on any investigation on the activities of the Amnesty Programme. Therefore, your publication is unfounded and a deliberate attempt to defame and malign the person of our client”.
Meanwhile, the letter titled, “Publication of Libelous Matter Against Kingsley Kuku : Demand For Immediate Retraction of The Publication” had been served on Sun Published Limited while a retraction is expected within the given time frame after which a legal redress will be sought against the newspaper.
